An American Bride in Germany

I'm having the most difficult time finding a cute blue dress for our court house wedding in Germany. I originally wanted something a bit Audrey Hepburn in “Funny Face”, or perhaps Jackie Kennedy inspired.




But I've realized, while they were both style icons, I am neither Audrey nor Jackie. I am Amanda, and I should stay true to me for my wedding(s). I don't want to look back in 20-50 years and say to myself, “what was I thinking?”

I think this dress is cute and very me, but not quite special enough for a wedding:



Then I saw this super cute sailor/vintage inspired dress and fell in love:



But it's sold out :-(

Today for something blue, I thought I'd bring up this cool idea one of my readers sent me. It's a CANDY BAR!! Not like a Snickers, but like a bar, where you get candy! Since Andre and I are both still kids at heart (and sometimes in the brain), I think this is a super cool idea. In the first photo, you'll see that jelly beans and rock candy have been put into little glasses/vases. The idea there is that they are both a favor for the guest, and an escort card to let them know what table they're at. Savvy!




This candy bar is a little more sophisticated or posh, but still really cool:



While browsing blue wedding ideas, I came across this beautiful inspiration board, which is doing its job of inspiring me:



I like how they did cupcake tiers instead of just a cake. Then I found this picture of both cake and cupcakes, with a beach twist, PERFECT!




Another interesting beach-y idea I came across, was a substitution for flower boutonnières, using a shell, and of course, blue:

I was going to go with "Tuesday Shoes-day", but I noticed by browsing other wedding blogs, it's been done.  Also, I came across these shoes and had an "ah-ha" moment:



I LOVE these shoes, and it also fits with Tuesday, so, there you have it!  Besides, it's perfect since one of our wedding colors will be blue.  I will probably go all out with the something blue idea, since it is, and always has been, my favorite color.

I'll do the shoes, bouquet, and hair piece:



And probably a blue sash, unless I ditch the white and get an entirely blue dress!



I obviously haven't decided on an exact shade of blue, but it will most likely be on the "lighter" side of the spectrum.  Aqua colors tend to lend themselves better to a beach wedding.  But who knows, I could always change the theme to "Come Sail Away" and use a nautical blue...  We are tying the knot after all!
